Introduction to the Faculty of Animal Sciences

The Faculty of Animal Sciences was incorporated into the academic structure of the National University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Afghanistan following the establishment of the university, in accordance with decree number (( 402 )/1172) dated 20/10/1391. The faculty was officially inaugurated and commenced its activities simultaneously with the opening of the university.
The faculty was established with the aim of advancing the livestock sector in Afghanistan, improving animal production, and developing skilled professional human resources. Through teaching, scientific research, and extension activities, the Faculty of Animal Sciences strives to educate specialists who can effectively contribute to animal breeding, production, and management, thereby strengthening the agricultural economy and enhancing food security in the country.
Currently, the Faculty of Animal Sciences offers undergraduate (bachelor’s degree) programs through its four active academic departments:
Animal Husbandry
Poultry Science
Animal Genetic and Breeding
Livestock Products and Technology
In addition, the faculty offers a Master’s degree programs in Livestock Production and Management and Dairy Science and Technology aiming to develop advanced academic and research capacities in the field.
The Faculty of Animal Sciences is committed to enhancing academic quality, expanding research activities, and responding to the needs of society, while preparing competent, dedicated, and innovative professionals to contribute to the development of Afghanistan.

Strategic Plan
The Strategic Plan of the Faculty of Animal Sciences for the period 2023–2027 (1402–1406) serves as a fundamental document guiding the academic, educational, and administrative development of the faculty. The plan has been developed in accordance with higher education standards and the needs of society. It outlines the faculty’s vision, mission, and strategic objectives aimed at enhancing the quality of teaching, promoting scientific research, strengthening the academic capacity of faculty members, and improving the professional skills of students.
The plan also emphasizes expanding academic collaborations with national and international institutions, improving infrastructure and laboratory facilities, and strengthening practical learning opportunities. Overall, this strategic plan provides a clear roadmap for the future development of the Faculty of Animal Sciences and aims to transform it into a center of academic excellence, research, and professional training.
Action Plan
All faculty activities are organized and implemented in accordance with the strategic plan.

Introduction to the Faculty of Animal Sciences The Faculty of Animal Sciences was established in 2013 (1392 Hijri Shamsi) within the framework of the National University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Afghanistan (ANASTU). Its purpose is to train professional and specialized cadres at the bachelor’s and master’s levels for the animal sector. This faculty provides both theoretical and practical education in livestock, animal genetics and breeding, poultry farming, and animal product technology.
Vision To grow and develop as a leading academic institution for standardizing the animal sector at the national and regional levels.
Mission To create a modern teaching, research, and extension environment so that professional, committed, and capable cadres in the field of animal sciences can be trained at the bachelor’s and master’s levels and presented to society.
Core Objectives Training professional and research cadres in animal sciences. Improving the quantity and quality of animal products. Strengthening and modernizing the livestock sector.
Academic Structure and Staff Currently, the faculty has about 14 academic staff members and operates in four major departments, with livestock being the active teaching department.
Students and Curriculum Students are admitted through the national entrance exam (Kankor) and study based on standardized and approved curricula. Teaching is conducted according to the credit system.
