Introduction to the Faculty of Animal Sciences
بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم
Faculty of Animal Sciences is administered under a special administrative framework by the Ministry of Higher Education of Afghanistan. Each department operates under the supervision of a general director, with its own organizational structure and workforce, as illustrated in the diagram below.
The Faculty of Animal Sciences was officially established within the academic framework of the Afghanistan National Agricultural Science and Technology University (ANASTU) by decree (402/1172) dated 20/10/1391. At its inception, four departments were formally approved: Animal Breeding and Husbandry, Veterinary, Animal Products Storage and Processing, and Poultry, Fish, and Beekeeping.
For official approval, decree (111/227) dated 12/2/1397 authorized the Livestock Department at the master’s level, and student enrollment was permitted. Accordingly, in 1397, ten students were admitted into the master’s program through the national entrance exam. Many faculty members are engaged in higher education both inside and outside the country to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees. Based on this collaboration, those students were sent to India’s IVRI (Indian Veterinary Research Institute) in Mizan 1398.
It is noteworthy that the Veterinary Department of the Faculty of Animal Sciences was elevated to an independent Faculty of Veterinary Sciences. By decision of the High Council of the Ministry of Higher Education (protocol no. 5 dated 15/7/1398) and decree (1065) dated 5/8/1398, the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences was formally approved within the university framework with 21 positions (academic, administrative, technical, protective, and service).
In 1399, following the transfer and integration of Kandahar University’s Faculty of Agriculture at the bachelor’s level, the Livestock Department was merged with the master’s program of the Faculty of Animal Sciences. Currently, the Livestock Department offers programs at both bachelor’s and master’s levels.
