Introduction to the Department of Agricultural Extension

The Department of Agricultural Extension is one of the most important departments of the Faculty of Agricultural Economics and Extension. This department studies the development of the agricultural sector and tries to transfer new technologies to the farmers in a suitable and standardized form, and also attempts to use the existing productive resources (land, water, pastures, forests, human power, etc.) to improve the economic situation of the country's farmers through using it, thus in this way the national economy can grow. The main objective of this department is to train students with theoretical and practical expertise in the extension department and to eliminate any problems among the farmers and private sector of the society at the level of the country, increase the production capacity and productivity, reduce food insecurity, improve the standard of living of farmers till develop the national economy continuously. This department has a wide environment of work that students will learn different skills during four years, such as management of productive resources, natural resources of the country, different methods of extension, planning and implementation of agricultural programs, agricultural policy and strategy formulation, agricultural project management and so on.
In the country's agricultural sector livestock owners, farmers and the private sector have an important role in the development of the national economy, and students will also conduct scientific research based on various methods, evaluate various projects, and study opportunities and challenges in the agricultural sector, technical survey, data interpretation and analysis, preparation of scientific research reports, presentation of scientific research and monographs.

In the Department of Agricultural Development and Extension, to train and present the students at professional level with bachelor's and master's degrees to the community so that they can apply knowledge and research in agricultural programs and policies.
Reducing the level of poverty and poverty in rural areas through the development of agriculture, increasing the level of production through research and extension education and striving to improve their quality.

Strategic Plan

Introduction, analysis and strategic points: The purpose is to train professional extension staffs to increasing the quality and quantity of plant and animal products for the agricultural sciences and economic strengthening of the country. Providing for the community a scientific, educational and research environment equipped with modern technological and quality services in the agricultural sector.
Capacity building: It is the first need to increase the working capacities of the lecturers and administrative staffs of the Agricultural Extension Department to increase the level of academic and administrative areas. In the next five years, it is planned to increase to the number of doctorate level (3-4) and introduce all the master lecturers to doctorate programs in order to do doctorate. Also, the plan is to hire the executive manager and service workers for the department that is should be approved and appointed, and provide temporary training programs for the administrative workers, especially those who are newly hired, in order to not face problems in their daily works.
Acquiring quality improvement accreditation: In order to obtain quality improvement accreditation, it is necessary that all personnel at the department level are fully familiar with the quality improvement process and that all standards are introduced to them correctly. In case of non-implementation, find the reasons of non-implementation and proposed solutions and provide facilities so that these standards are implemented properly and the department reaches its target.
Improving the quality of the teaching process: The Department of Agricultural Extension is trying to make teaching easier for all students by providing electronic education and provide teaching facilities for the lecturers. The university uses methods and electronic devices according to the new age in order to create a standard teaching and a good environment for learning. Improve the quality of teaching through Information Literacy, IT cut, LMS programs and through ELCLC and other English learning centers to learn English (for the lecturers and students who are not fully familiar with it). And try to shine all the lecturers and employees work for the faculty and department at the regional and national level.
Academic research, innovation and critical public thinking: According to the available facilities the Department of Agricultural Extension pave the way in different fields for research, innovation, and inventions. We want to make the lecturers and students have the characteristic of a researcher, critical thinking and innovative spirit, strengthen the academic values, the publicity and priority.
Financial independence: In first step the university, in second step the faculty, and the third step the department should prepare as soon as possible for the implementation of the regulation of financial independence in order to remove obstacles in the way of building their infrastructure and increasing their academic capacity. When the university gets the resources for budgeting and the authority and capacity for spending, then the university will be able to build necessary buildings, increase capacities, and standardize teaching activities in all areas. Take quick and effective steps in research dissemination and all other necessary development matters.
 

Action Plan

•    The vision, mission, values, course policies of faculty members, individual operational plans, and the teaching quality improvement plan of the Agricultural Extension Department shall be reviewed and approved by the Academic Council of the Department and Faculty.
•    Enhancing and improving the teaching–learning process of students through home-based, classroom, and field-based activities.
•    Provision of physical learning resources such as chairs, whiteboards, projectors, and other necessary facilities.
•    Ensuring adequate human resources for the department (filling vacant academic positions).
 

Action Report

• In the current year (1402), the Department of Agricultural Extension has registered its first batch of students through the Kankur exam, the number of students reach to (10) persons.
• The curriculum of the graduate program of the Department of Agricultural Extension has been finalized after the creation of three clusters, which will enroll the students at the graduate level in the near future.
• The first draft of the curriculum for the Bachelor's program of the Department of Agricultural Extension was prepared, which was approved by the Curriculum Committee of the Faculty of Agricultural Economics and Extension. And finally the rest work of the curriculum will be finalized soon.
• Lecturers of the Department of Agricultural Extension participated in national conferences at the level of Afghanistan and presented and published their research.
• The researches and articles of the lecturers of the agricultural extension department also published in international journals and many more are under work for publication.
