Introduction to the Agronomy Department – Faculty of Plant Sciences

 

The Agronomy Department was established in 2013 (1391 AH) under the framework of the Faculty of Plant Sciences at ANASTU University. Its purpose is to:

  • Train professional specialists in agronomy at both bachelor’s and master’s levels.

  • Implement research programs aimed at solving agronomy-related problems in society.

  • Apply and promote modern technologies and the results of effective national and international research in the field of agronomy.

Currently, the department has eight academic members who hold master’s and doctoral degrees from reputable national and international universities.

Vision

  • To train professional cadres capable of producing agricultural crops with high quantity and quality, thereby strengthening the agricultural sector of the country.

  • To conduct research addressing existing quantitative and qualitative challenges in agriculture.

  • To upgrade the Agronomy Department to the level of a faculty in the future, considering its importance.

Mission

To provide a scientific, educational, and research environment equipped with modern technology, facilitating academic and research programs for students and farmers.

Goal

To employ scientific, educational, and research methods at a high level for the training of academic cadres, serving as a tool for agricultural development at national and regional levels.

Special Competencies

1. Training The Agronomy Department, equipped with modern technology and staffed with professional cadres, has the capacity to train students at bachelor’s and master’s levels in various fields of agronomy. In addition, with the support of the private sector and NGOs, it can organize short-term and long-term refresher and capacity-building courses for professionals and practitioners.

2. Research The department is capable of designing, planning, and implementing research and survey programs in agronomy, soil and water, seeds, genetics, agricultural machinery, cereals, legumes, and other related fields, in accordance with national and international standards. It can also analyze, interpret, and publish data from both simple and complex research programs using modern technology.

3. Extension Activities Research and extension in agriculture are interconnected activities. With its experienced professional team and close ties to the agricultural sector of the country, the Agronomy Department can effectively implement extension programs.
