Introduction to the General Department

The General Department (GD) is a non-graduate specialized department within the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, responsible for educating students in pri-clinical, animal production, and food technology and hygiene disciplines. The GD implements the applied curriculum, delivers theoretical and practical instruction, and supervises the teaching process. This department strives to create a suitable environment for theoretical and practical training, skill development, and mental growth, and to strengthen students' professional and vocational education, enhancing educational effectiveness through the management framework.
The GD currently has five (5) academic staff members and maintains an organized schedule, short- and long-term plans, and the applied regulation and policy, continuing its efforts toward the set objectives.
In addition to educating students, this department plays an active and responsible role in conducting standard research, publishing results, strengthening professional skills, increasing public awareness, and ensuring public health.
Collectively, this department assists and closely collaborate in development and promotion of policies, strategies, regulations, guidelines, surveys, assessments, and findings in the agriculture and livestock sector. It also cooperates with public health institutions on zoonotic diseases prevention, food technology, and hygiene practices.
Vision
The GD plays a prominent and leading role in educating committed veterinarians through teaching professional skills, as well as in conducting scientific research in the field.
Mission
The GD of the faculty of veterinary sciences plays an active role in teaching and training students using internationally accepted academic standards for the provision of professional and committed veterinarians to society, as well as conducting scientific research and contribute in strengthening public health.
Goals
• Training of committed and professional veterinarians through theoretical and practical teaching.
• For supporting professional skills, continuous evaluation of the curriculum and academic plans.
• Development of suitable solutions for challenges through innovative scientific research.
• Playing an active role through public awareness in food safety and strengthening public health from the viewpoint of the veterinary profession.•

Strategic Plan
The goal of the strategic plan from 1405-1409 is to support in providing the requirement for provision of suitable environment for teaching, management, research and practical training of students.
The strategic plan consist of development capacity of teaching and management staff, providing laboratory, teaching, infrastructure, and logistic facilities as well as supporting the vision for student and professionals role in providing services for communities.
Action Plan
In order to reach to the set goal and objectives of veterinary faculty, based on the strategic plan (1401-1405), the following activities are planned
• Short- and long-term plans, course policy and teaching plans development.
• Management and monitoring of the entire academic and practical operation
• Following and management of faculty animal health clinic establishment and equipping work
• Contribution in equipping research farms
• Contribution in the entire affairs with other departments, as well as faculty and university level.
Action Report
In order to reach to the set goal and objectives of veterinary faculty, based on the strategic plan (1401-1405), the following main activities are completed:
• GD developed short (semester) and long terms (yearly) plan, course policy and teaching plans,
• One academic member has started his Ph.D. program in Malaysia and two others are introduced for Master program within Afghanistan.
• Establishment of animal health clinic is under progressive work.
• Research farms are erected, its equipping process is under progressive work.
• Actively have participated in management and administrative committees at faculty and university level.
• During the year, total of 15 research and review articles are published and national and highly accredited international journals.
