Introduction to the Directorate of Scientific Research

The Directorate of Academic Research was established for the first time in 2020 under the Academic Vice-Chancellery. Following the establishment of the Vice-Chancellorship for Academic Research, the Directorate has continued its activities under the supervision of this Vice-Chancellorship, in accordance with its terms of reference and in pursuit of societal development.
The Directorate of Academic Research consists of a Director, a General Research Manager, and two additional management positions: a Natural Sciences Specialist and a Social Sciences Specialist.
At the university level, the Directorate of Academic Research continuously struggles to establish and strengthen research facilities, provide a conducive environment for research activities, and encourage researchers. It aims to transform the university into a prominent and distinguished research center at the national and regional levels.

Vision

The Directorate of Scientific Research of the University seeks to establish a dynamic and conducive scientific environment in the fields of agriculture and livestock, where research and innovation contribute to the advancement of knowledge, the resolution of societal challenges, and the development of effective and sustainable solutions for national development.

Mission

The Directorate of Scientific Research is committed to promoting a culture of research and scholarly activities among university faculty and students and to making a constructive contribution to societal development by providing essential research facilities and translating research findings into practice.

Goal

1. Promoting a Research Culture:
Enhancing the importance of research among the university lecturers and students and strengthening scientific and research activities and efforts.
2. Providing Research Facilities:
Coordinating and collaborating with laboratories, libraries, the research farm, and other relevant units to provide appropriate facilities and support for conducting research.
3. Enhancing Researchers’ Capacity:
Organizing research-related training programs, seminars, and workshops to enable faculty members and students to learn new research methods and approaches.
4. Improving the Standards of Scientific Research:
Adhering to international research standards and continuously improving research processes to ensure the quality of research activities.
5. Conducting Research in Response to National Needs:
Conducting applied researches in line with the country’s key priorities, including promoting innovation in agriculture and livestock, environmental protection, economic development, food security, and addressing climate change.
6. Implementation of Research Findings into Practice:
Sharing research findings with relevant implementing agencies to support national and regional policy formulation and contribute to the resolution of societal challenges.
7. Expanding National and International Collaboration:
Establishing and strengthening collaboration with national and international universities and research institutions and facilitating the exchange of research knowledge and experience.
8. Expanding Research Funding Sources:
Establishing and strengthening relationships with governmental, non-governmental and international organizations to mobilize and secure financial resources for research activities.

Action Plan

1.   Providing the necessary facilities and support for research conducted by faculty members and students.
2.   Documenting research activities and recording them in databases.
3.   Continuously monitoring ongoing research projects.
4.   Providing guidance and consultation to researchers whenever needed.
5.   Organizing various training workshops and seminars for faculty members, students, and researchers to enhance their research capacity.
6.   Providing training programs for affiliated universities at the zonal level.
7.   Preparing, reviewing, and processing research proposals for the purpose of securing funding.
8.   Maintaining and strengthening relationships and collaboration with national and international research institutions.
9.   Conducting research needs assessments.
10.   Planning research activities based on the results of needs assessments and forwarding them to the relevant departments.
11.   Disseminating research findings to the community and relevant institutions through various means and channels.
12.   Organizing conferences aimed at addressing and contributing to the resolution of major national and fundamental challenges.
13.   Selecting and recognizing the Researcher, Author, and Translator of the Year.
14.   Making efforts to secure funding for research activities.
15.   Performing all other related managerial and coordination duties.

Action Report

Research-Related Activities:
•   Over the past years, dozens of research projects have been conducted by faculty members and hundreds by students, using personal funds and the available resources and facilities of the university.
•   Based on these research activities, hundreds of scientific articles have been prepared, developed, and published in national and international journals.
•   For the year 1405 Solar Hijri (2026/27), 12 research projects conducted by our faculty members are currently in progress, and it is planned that up to 20 additional research projects will be initiated during the same year, God willing.
•   Thirteen research proposals submitted by our faculty members have received preliminary approval from the Ministry. Following completion of the relevant procedures, these research projects will also be initiated and implemented.
•   Approximately 50 research projects by master’s students have been initiated or are scheduled to be initiated during this year.
•   Approximately 100 research projects by bachelor’s students are currently underway, based on which monographs and scientific articles will be prepared.
•   The Researcher, Author, and Translator of the Year are recognized and honored annually at the end of each year based on established criteria.
•   A Research Policy has been developed for the research sector, and research activities at the university are conducted in accordance with this policy.
Activities Undertaken to Serve the Community and Disseminate Research Findings:
•   Religious, scientific, and technical workshops have been conducted for farmers and livestock producers in various districts of Kandahar Province.
•   Research findings have been compiled and shared with the community in the form of a book, and continuation of this initiative is also planned.
•   Research findings and scientific knowledge have been disseminated to the community through poster presentations and conferences.
•   We previously conducted programs on agriculture and livestock with Shariat Ghagh Radio, and in 2026 we launched a new program with the radio entitled “Farmer Training.” Through this program, information is provided on key challenges facing the agriculture and livestock sectors in the region and possible solutions to these challenges.
•   Research findings have been communicated to relevant stakeholders through official correspondence and professional consultations.
In addition, five revenue-generating project proposals have been developed and submitted to the Ministry, including:
•   A Seed Improvement and Breeding Proposal;
•   A Soil Fertility Mapping Proposal for Kandahar Province;
•   A Breeding and Production Proposal for Parent Stock Poultry;
•   A Proposal for the Analysis of Imported Chemical Fertilizers.
Some Other Major Activities:
•   An internal conference on Food Security and Safety was organized, and its findings and outcomes were communicated to the relevant authorities.
•   Two collections of conference papers, along with books containing abstracts and recommendations, have been printed and published.
•   Various capacity-building workshops and seminars have been organized at the zonal level for university faculty members and students.
•   Dozens of workshops, seminars, and conferences have been conducted to enhance the research capacity of faculty members and students of Afghanistan National Agricultural Sciences and Technology University (ANASTU).
•   Various work plans have been developed to improve, organize, and establish a structured framework for the activities.
•   All matters related to research, translations, authored works, and publications have been reviewed carefully and systematically, and this process is ongoing.
•   All activities and relevant statistics are recorded and securely maintained in Excel databases.
