Introduction to the Department of Biotechnology

The Department of Plant Biotechnology was established in 2020 as part of Plant Science Faculty at Afghanistan National Agricultural Sciences and Technology University, responding to social needs and the requirements of Higher Education Ministry. Presently, the department boasts three expert lecturers holding M.Sc. degrees, along with various academic levels such as professor, associate professor, and senior teaching assistant. While student enrollment is currently limited due to delayed registrations, the department has plan to significantly enhance enrollment opportunities for students to 30 members by the year 2026.

 

Vision

The Department of Plant Biotechnology aspires to become a forefront department in the country within the field of biotechnology. Our accreditation will be grounded in delivering high-quality education, conducting impactful academic research, and effectively implementing both current and future innovations.

 

Mission

The Department of Plant Biotechnology is dedicated to contribute to the country's self-sufficiency in agricultural products. The Department aim to achieve this through the provision of high-quality education, providing professional and skilled graduates, impactful academic research, and effective implementation of innovative practices.

 

Goals

1.    To provide students with comprehensive theoretical knowledge and practical skills in modern biotechnology.
2.    To train specialized professionals in genetic engineering capable of developing high-yielding and stress-resistant crop varieties, including resistance to diseases, pests, and drought.
3.    To promote environmentally sustainable and resilient agricultural systems.
4.    To conserve, improve, and manage indigenous genetic resources.
5.    To strengthen institutions supporting plant breeding and certified seed production.

Action Plan

The Department of Plant Biotechnology and its affiliated members, in pursuit of their routine objectives and for the effective implementation of Plant Science Faculty strategic plan, undertake various operational plans, including:

  • Annual Action Plan at the Department Level, which is developed and implemented each year in alignment with the Faculty’s Strategic Plan.
  • Quadratic Plan, which is prepared and executed based on the Annual Action Plan.
  • Teaching Improvement Plan, developed and implemented each semester to enhance and organize instructional activities.
  • Teachers Operational Plans, which are prepared at the beginning of each semester by individual department members to organize and carry out their teaching, academic, and administrative responsibilities, and are subsequently implemented accordingly.
  • In addition, implementation reports related to the above-mentioned plans are prepared in a timely manner and shared with the Faculty.
  • Annual Program Monitoring Action report is prepared at the end of each academic year, and a new Annual Program Monitoring Action Plan is developed at the beginning of the following academic year and subsequently implemented.
     

Action Report

•    Academic Promotion: Facilitating academic promotion of one faculty member to the associate professor level.
•    Translation Endorsement: Ensuring the registration and endorsement of translation work for one academic member undergoing promotion to the assistant professor level.
•    Conference Participation: Encouraging lecturers to actively participate in academic conferences and workshops to share knowledge and insights.
•    Preparation of academic publications, translations, and the conduct of essential research activities at the research farm by the department members.
•    Manuscript Submission: Supporting lecturers in the preparation and submission of academic manuscripts to both international and national journals.
•    Routine Departmental Management: Efficiently managing day-to-day departmental activities and submitting monthly reports to the Plant Science Faculty.
•    Timely Correspondence: Ensuring prompt responses to formal letters, fostering effective communication within the department.
